How the Honor System Works
It's beautifully simple: take what speaks to your heart, leave what feels right. Old-fashioned trust meeting modern convenience.
Find the Little White Cottage
Look for our cozy white cottage with the red door in Oak Cliff. You'll know you're in the right place when you catch that sweet aroma drifting from the kitchen window. The honor box sits right on the front porch, welcoming neighbors 24 hours a day.

Browse & Choose
Open up the honor box and see what treasures await! Everything is individually wrapped and labeled with ingredients. Take your time, browse the selection, and choose whatever calls to you. No rush, no pressure— just pure browsing joy.
What You'll Find
- Fresh cookies wrapped in compostable bags
- Sliced sourdough in paper sleeves
- Special treats in individual boxes
- Handwritten labels with love
Pay What Feels Right
Here's where the magic happens. There's a suggested price on each item, but ultimately, you pay what feels right in your heart. Cash, Venmo, or even a kind note—it all works. Some days people pay a little extra, other days a little less, and somehow it all balances out perfectly.
Payment Options
- Cash in the lockbox (most common)
- Venmo @LaciesBakery (QR code in box)
- Kind notes (these warm my heart!)
- Pay-it-forward for the next neighbor

Questions Neighbors Often Ask
What if the box is empty?
I restock throughout the day, but sometimes we sell out of favorites! If you're looking for something specific, feel free to text me at (555) 123-BAKE. I might have some fresh from the oven that just needs to cool.
What happens if I don't have exact change?
Don't worry about it! Pay what you can, or grab the treats and come back another time. I've had people pay for cookies weeks later, and it always works out. Community runs on trust, not precise accounting.
Can I place special orders?
Absolutely! I love making birthdays, celebrations, and regular Tuesdays a little more special. Just give me a call or send a text with what you're dreaming of, and we'll make it happen.
How do you keep things fresh in the box?
Everything is individually wrapped and the box has good ventilation. I rotate stock frequently and have "baked on" dates on everything. Plus, things usually don't sit around long—this neighborhood loves their treats!
What if it's raining or super hot?
The honor box is weatherproof and has some climate protection, but on extreme weather days, I might move it to a more sheltered spot on the porch. Check my Instagram @LaciesBakery for any updates!
Why the Honor System Works

"In three years of honor system business, I can count on one hand the times someone didn't pay. But I can't count the number of times someone paid extra, left a sweet note, or helped spread the word to other neighbors. People are good—we just need to give them the chance to show it."
